Marmeren

Marmeren met verf uit een spuitbus

I have used a glossy spray paint, on top of water in aluminum trays. Use caution if doing this with kids... Might be good for small groups done outside.

Lesson:

  1. Fill aluminum trays with water.
  2. Spray a light coat of enamel-based spray paint (I have used all colors, including gold and silver) on top of the water
  3. Swirl with combs, hair picks, or long thin toothpick-like sticks
  4. Lay white paper on top of the water for about 10 seconds, press gently, and
you will see the spray paint stick to the paper through the back of the
    paper.
  5. Lift gently, lay flat to dry.

Simple Sumi Tutorial
This wonderful tutorial was created and filmed by Staff Writer Judi Hays. "Sumi" is short for Suminagashi -- which means "spilled ink" in Japanese. It is created by floating ink on top of water and capturing the marbled pattern onto a sheet of paper. Here is a quick and easy way to recreate the dramatic suminagashi look.

NOTE: Fumes may be strong. Work in a well-ventilated area.

Krylon Stained Glass Spray Paint in Assorted Colors
- Shallow Plastic or Glass Container at Least 2" Deep,
and Larger than the Paper Size to be Used
- Wooden Bamboo Skewers
- Warm Water
- Plenty of Large Clean Paper (Unprinted Newsprint is
Recommended)
- Sheets of Absorbent Paper in Neutral Tones
(Construction Paper, Newsprint, Colored Paper with
Printed Designs, and Pages from Old Books also work)
- Optional: Rubber Gloves
Steps One & Two:
Fill container with warm water.

Choose two or three paint colors and shake cans well. One color at a time, spray 2-3 shots into water. Use your hand to cover over the sprayer as you spray so the spray goes directly into the water.
Step Three:
Slowly place sheet of absorbent paper and place it on top of the water surface. Use the skewer to submerge it in the water. Colors will start to attract to the paper.
Step Four:
Use the tip of the skewer to lift the edge of the paper, then pull the sheet out of the water. Set aside on a stack of uninked newsprint to dry.
